Balance and Focus: Accessing the 6th Chakra

Hey all!
I am teaching a workshop on the 6th Chakra at Yoga Yoga South on October 30th, 2-4:30pm. This is a great opportunity to dive into a deeper understanding the 6th Chakra, mental focus, and balancing postures. The practice of balancing is a tool in opening and aligning the 6th Chakra. The 6th Chakra houses the Third Eye, the eye that sees within, which guides us through intuition. When the 6th is balanced, our intuition guides us effortlessly through life and gives us the sensation of being harmonious with the world. In this workshop we will concentrate on building the mental focus and physical strength to hold balancing postures, such as Vrksanana (Tree Pose) and Bakasana (Crow Pose). Using the focus created through practicing these balancing postures, we will calm the mind in Pranayama (breath work) and finish with a relaxation meditation.
You can sign up for the workshop online at www.yogayoga.com/workshops or call Yoga Yoga at 512-326-3900. Feel free to email me with any questions and I look forward to seeing you there!

Free Day of Yoga!!!!

It's that time of year again, when the yoga is free and many students I see! Austin will celebrate a city-wide Free Day of Yoga on Monday September 5th. This is a great opportunity to check out a new studio, teacher, or class and bring a friend, because it's free! I will be teaching a Hatha class at Yoga Yoga 360 at 1pm. The Yoga Yoga 360 studio has a beautiful, big room where the class will be held, so it will not be as crowded as some FDOY classes tend to be. I expect to see lots of you there!

Here are is a link to the offical Austin FDOY Website where you will find schedules for local studios and other events to celebrate the practice of yoga! Also, in the right margin of my blog, you will find links to studios all over the city.

I know I have been absent lately in the blog world:( However, I seem to have finally found a good balance of school and work and commit to blogging once a month. So, you will be hearing more from me soon about free yoga in Austin. I am currently forming a list of weekly free yoga classes in Austin for the financially frugile...so, stay tuned! And let me know if you know of a free class in town so I can share it with others.

Thanks and love!

New Year, New Horizons

Hi there Yogis and Yoginis, Happy New Year! I hope that the holiday season was a joy and that you enjoyed time with your loved ones. It is a bit shocking, to me at least, that we have crossed into another year seamlessly and as I try to adjust to writing 11 instead of 10, I cannot help but reflect on the year that passed. Perhaps it is a strong presence of the moon or just my own nostalgia, but I have found myself very reflective lately. This past year was a sort of "soul searching" year for me. I have been exploring for years the idea of returning to school for a graduate degree but never ventured further than the thought until last summer when I took a psychology course. Once I was back in the classroom, a path began to form towards Physical Therapy School. Very honestly, I hardly had to make a choice, the choice made me. This is one benefit of knowing how to surrender, it can make decisions effortless. However, to begin anew something must end, and in order to return to school I had to stop teaching many of my yoga classes. This was a heartbreaking realization. I love teaching yoga and I think you all know that! Currently, I am completing pre-requisite course work and will officially start the DPT program in 2012. Until then I plan on continuing to teach on Sundays at 12:00 at Yoga Yoga Westgate. This is the only public class I am teaching but it is a beginner friendly class, so every one is welcome to attend! I hope to see you all soon and please drop me an email and let me know how you are settling into the new year. Love and thanks always!
